Dhaka Metropolitan Police (DMP) has urged to all concerned parties not to dig out roads for utility purposes during the month of holy Ramadan.
The Ramadan is likely to begin from March 2 as the capital city witnesses intensified traffic gridlocks during the period. To avoid such situation, DMP provided this instruction.
In a statement, they said it is often observed that even during the month of Ramadan, various organizations and contractors block roads for various utility-related works, which create several problems like narrowing the roads and intensify traffic jams in the adjacent areas.
According to the statement, “Due to traffic jams on the roads, many people cannot reach their workplace, hospital, market and other places on time. With a view to reduce the public sufferings, it would not be appropriate for various organizations, contractors not to start utility-related works on the roads of Dhaka Metropolitan City during the holy month of Ramadan.”
It also said: “The holy month of Ramadan is likely to begin from March 2 and on the occasion of Ramadan and Eid-ul-Fitr, the movement of people, including traffic, in Dhaka Metropolitan City will generally increase. Most of the people will carry out their activities from 07.00 am to 10.00 pm. And as a result, there is a possibility of excessive traffic pressure on the roads during the month of Ramadan.”
“In this situation, Dhaka Metropolitan police have specifically requested that various organizations, contractors not to restart various utility-related work in Dhaka Metropolitan City during the holy month of Ramadan,” the statement said.
The DMP has asked every concerned party to cooperate in this regard.
