Eleven individuals have been arrested in connection with the murder of lawyer Saiful Islam Alif in Chattogram, reports Dhaka Tribune.
The police conducted raids across the city on Sunday and took the suspects into custody.
The arrestees are Premnandan Das, 19, Ranba Das, 24, Bidhan Das, 29, Bikash Das, 24, Rumit Das, Raj Kapoor, 55, Samir Das, 25, Shiv Kumar Das, 23, Om Das, 26, Ajay Das, 30, and Devi Charan, 36.
According to Mofiz Uddin, additional deputy commissioner (Prosecution) of Chattogram Metropolitan Police (CMP), these 11 individuals were arrested in connection with the murder of lawyer Alif.
They were sent to court at 9pm on Sunday, and following the court's instructions, they were sent to jail.
Chattogram’s Sixth Metropolitan Magistrate, Kazi Shariful Islam, issued the orders.
With these arrests, the total number of people arrested in the case now stands at 21.
The murder took place on November 26 during a clash near the Chittagong court premises over the rejection of bail for Sammilita Sanatani Jagran Jote spokesperson Chinmoy Krishna Das, who had been arrested in a sedition case.
During the clash, lawyer Alif was beaten and hacked.
