At least four people have died and four others fell sick after consuming alcohol in Rajshahi.
Three of the victims died on Wednesday, and one died on Thursday, said Dr Shankar K Biswas, spokesperson for Rajshahi Medical College Hospital (RMCH), reports UNB.
The deceased are Montaz Ali(42), from Durgapur village in Jahanabad union of Mohonpur upazila, Tutul(28), Ekdil(50), and Jewel(25), from Karisha village.
Besides, Pintu(35), Akbar(46), Mona(28), and Firoz Hossain(28), are undergoing treatment at RMCH.
All victims had sought treatment after consuming alcohol.
Two of them died upon arrival at the hospital, while two others were declared brought dead, said the RMCH spokesperson.
The condition of the four receiving treatment is stable, and they are under observation, he added.
Helena Akhter, additional superintendent of police in Rajshahi, said they arrested two individuals in connection with the incident.
The arrestees are – Mukul(39), from Motihar, and Joni(42), from Dhopaghata.
A case has been filed by Masum Rana, the son of one of the victims, Montaz Ali.
Police are continuing their investigation and efforts to arrest others involved in the incident, added the police official.
