City Mayor Dr Shahadat Hossain today urged people to donate blood regularly, saying that blood donation in every four months helps donors stay healthy.
“Blood transfusion saves millions of lives every year and regular blood donation keeps anyone’s body healthy. Anyone can donate blood every four months,” he added.
As part of blood donation, several health tests such as HIV, syphilis, hepatitis are offered for the donor concerned, he said while speaking as chief guest at a gathering on the occasion of International Volunteer Day 2024.
Bangladesh Volunteer Blood Forum organised the programme at Shaheed Wasim Park in city’s Ambagan area this evening.
Highlighting various attractive tourist sports in Chattogram, the mayor said Shaheed Wasim Park is such a wonderful place that can become the center of attraction for domestic and foreign tourists.
“I have a plan to build another green park surrounded by hills like Foy’s Lake”, he said, adding that the new park will be enriched with greenery having walkways, which will add a new dimension to the beauty of Chattogram.
Director of Bangladesh Voluntary Blood Forum Bibi Fatema chair the event while former city BNP general secretary Aabul Hashem Bakkar, DIG of Bangladesh Tourist Police Md. Apel Mahmud and president of central committee of the National Poetry Forum Mahmudul Hasan Nizami, among others, spoke at the function.
