Benapole Port Thana police have recovered the body of a housewife named Kohinoor Begum.
She was the wife of Hriday Hossain from Dighirpar village.
The victim's sister, Rahima Khatun, has lodged a formal complaint to Benapole Port Thana regarding the incident.
Police have arrested Kohinoor Begum's husband, Hriday Hossain (25), along with her father-in-law, Sirajul Islam, mother-in-law, Shahana Begum, and sister-in-law, Sagarika, in connection with the incident.
Kohinoor was the daughter of the late Dulu Mia from Lotadighi village in Sharsha, Jessore. She and Hriday have a two-year-old son.
Relatives of the deceased and Officer In Charge of Benapole Port Thana, Russell Mia, reported that Kohinoor Begum had faced harassment and mistreatment from her in-laws due to dowry demands since her marriage.
They stated that late Thursday night, her family collectively smothered her with a scarf and a pillow, then falsely claimed she had committed suicide. With assistance from locals, the scarf and pillow used in the crime were later recovered from an adjacent room.
The body has been sent to the morgue of Jessore 250-Bed General Hospital for an autopsy.
