Five police personnel were injured and three vehicles were torched during a clash between police and locals after a domestic help found dead in front of a building at Banasree’s D Block in Dhaka on Sunday, reports UNB.
Rampura police station’s Officer-in-Charge Mashiur Rahman said locals spotted the body of 42-year-old Asma Begum lying on road No-4 in the Banasree area around 8:30 am.
Asma used to work in the house of one Kaniz Fatema who came to her father Abdur Rob’ house in the area with Asma three days back, he said.
Local people, including those work in different houses in the area as domestic worker, got furious suspecting it to be a murder and tried to enter the building breaking the collapsible gate, the OC said adding that he along with a team rushed to the spot after hearing this news.
Upon arrival, a chase and counter-chase began with the police, the police officer said.
At one stage, they entered the building and vandalised some valuables and set fire to three vehicles parked in the garage of the house, he said.
Responding to an emergency call, additional police personnel rushed to the house and brought the situation under control, the OC said.
Later, the victim’s body was sent to Dhaka Medical College Hospital morgue for autopsy, he said, adding that the reason behind the death will be known upon receiving the report.
No one has so far been arrested in this connection, OC Mashiru added.
