Independent candidate Torikul Islam Bhuiyan got back his candidacy to compete for the Dhaka-17 by-election as the High Court stayed Election Commission's (EC) decision to cancel his nomination paper.
A High Court division bench of Justice S M Kuddus Zaman and Justice AKM Rabiul Hassan passed the order after holding hearing on a writ petition, challenging the decision of the EC.
The court also ordered the authorities concerned to give him the opportunity to take part in the election, reports BSS.
Advocate Md Wajiullah, aided by Advocate Azim Uddin Patwari and Shah Md Babor, moved the plea before the court.
The Election Commission on June 18 scrapped the nomination papers of eight candidates including Torikul, making him challenge the decision with the High Court.
