Chief of Army Staff General Waker-uz-Zaman said the Dhaka International Marathon 2025 was not just a competitive race - it also conveys a message of global solidarity and good health, reports UNB.
The Army Chief made his remarks while presenting prizes to the winners of the Dhaka International Marathon 2025.
General Waker-uz-Zaman, who also serves as the president of the Bangladesh Olympic Association, expressed his hope that the Dhaka International Marathon 2025 would raise social and health awareness among all sections of the people of Bangladesh.
He extended his sincere gratitude to all the local and foreign athletes who participated in the event, apart from everyone involved in making the marathon a success.
A total of 10,527 runners, including 9,760 men and 767 women, participated in the marathon across various categories.
In the full marathon, that is 42 kilometres, Md. Al-Amin claimed first place in the men's category, while Papiya Khatun took the top spot in the women's category.
Hometown boy Nauweed Reza completed the full marathon, arguably the ultimate test of stamina and endurance, in a personal best.
In the half marathon (21-km), Md. Ashiq Ahmed and Rinki Biswas were the winners, among men and women respectively.
In the 10-km general category, it was M. Sowan among the men and Priya Akhter among the women, who finished in first place, respectively.
In the first-timers' category, also 10km, Md. Tuhin Al Mamun and Mosa Sumaiya Akhtar finished first in the men's and women's categories, respectively.
In the 10-km veterans' race, Jasim Uddin Ahmed and Iri Li Koiki claimed the top positions in the men's and women's categories, respectively.
The Dhaka International Marathon 2025 took place on Saturday morning, under the overall supervision of the Bangladesh Army.
Lieutenant General SM Kamrul Hasan inaugurated the race at 5am, as chief guest. Runners began from the Navy Base located next to the 300 Feet Road in North Dhaka, proceeded along the Purbachal Expresssway, crossed Kanchan Bridge to return to the 300 Feet Road, before concluding back at the Navy Base.
