Bangladesh Cricket Board (BCB) President Faruque Ahmed has called for strict action against players and officials involved in match-fixing or spot-fixing in the ongoing Bangladesh Premier League (BPL).
While talking to Cricbuzz on Friday, Faruque said, "Look, I cannot make any official comment until the investigation is completed because there is a protocol we need to follow."
"The whole list and the events that happen during the tournament are noted and the investigation is done later. If during the investigation something comes up, then you know the punishment is quite harsh, and if I find out something, their life will be quite different because I won't spare anyone guilty. The decision will be taken once and for all, and it will be exemplary."
It was reported that BCB's Anti-Corruption Unit, based on anonymous tips and media reports, identified eight matches in the tournament under suspicion of spot-fixing and match-fixing. It was also reported that 10 players are under the ACU scanner while they are also closely monitoring the activities of four franchises.
Among the franchises, Durbar Rajshahi and Dhaka Capitals have the most integrity flags, with each having 12 cricketers, while Sylhet Strikers and Chittagong Kings have six and two respectively.
Meanwhile, immigration authorities have been instructed to temporarily prevent Durbar Rajshahi's former skipper Anamul Haque Bijoy from leaving the country due to multiple spot-fixing allegations.
According to Faruque Ahmed, BCB will set an example by punishing the responsible persons which will work as an alert in the future.
