In a heartfelt post-match presentation, Nurul Hasan Sohan, the captain of Rangpur Riders, dedicated their historic Global T20 Super League (GSL) trophy to the innocent lives lost during the tragic events that unfolded in Bangladesh during July and August, reports The Business Standard.
"The lives of many innocent people were lost in July and August in our country. I dedicate this trophy to them", said Sohan.
As a prominent figure, he had been an active supporter of the student protests in Bangladesh, which had erupted due to the controversial quota system.
Throughout the period of unrest, when the streets were filled with young demonstrators calling for reform, Sohan consistently voiced his concerns over the violence that overshadowed the protests.
Sohan had shown great empathy for the students' cause, and his support for them was evident when he wrote on social media on 18 July, urging for unity and better guidance for the younger generation: "Our young generation has shown how to be united and how strong they are when they are one. They can take Bangladesh to the next step if they are guided to the right path. They have the courage and selflessness. They can change the culture of selfishness. Please don't misguide them. Don't spoil them."
In addition to his support for the protests, Sohan had also expressed his solidarity with the victims of the devastating floods that affected Bangladesh.
On the field, Sohan's leadership guided Rangpur Riders to a historic triumph in the GSL final.
