Bangladesh Cricket Board (BCB) abruptly replaced head coach Chandika Hathurusingha with Phil Simmons. However, the Caribbean coach failed in his first assignment. The team got whitewashed against South Africa at home, followed by a loss to Afghanistan in the ODI series.
After losing two series in a row, the start of the series against West Indies was nothing short of a nightmare. After losing the Antigua Test, there was a sense of fear that Bangladesh was about to lose another Series. However, Bangladesh fought back. They beat the Carribeans and leveled the series 1-1
Reflecting on the win, Simmons said, “I really liked the positive mindset of our batsmen. In the first few matches, they were just trying to survive. But on the third day of this Test, you could see them saying, ‘I’m here to play too.’ I really enjoyed that and appreciated it.”
Hoping to build on this mindset for future success, Simmons added, “I’ve ensured they understand that this is the only way to play from now on. Many young players were waiting for a win like this. It feels great to see the team bounce back after losing the first match. This is a moment of immense joy for me.”
