The Dhaka Mass Transit Company Limited (DMTCL) today (Dec 25) suspended metro rail operations at the Dhaka University station due to security concerns.
The decision was made following a letter sent to DMTCL by the university authorities, said the company's General Manager (operations), Md Iftikhar Hossain
"The university authorities discussed the matter with the Ministry of Home Affairs. Based on their security concerns, we decided not to stop the metro rail at Dhaka University station today.
"Operations will resume at the station starting tomorrow," he added.
Similarly, the Dhaka University metro rail operations will remain suspended on Dec 31 and Jan 1, 2025. The operation was also suspended on Dec 16 for the same reason.
Proctor Prof Dr Maksudur Rahman said, "the decision to temporarily close the station on specific days is made due to the ease with which outsiders can enter the university via the metro station."
