Bangladesh have once again claimed the title of champion in the SAFF Women's Championship final, triumphing over Nepal. The Tigresses secured their supremacy by defeating Nepal once more.
The Tigresses won the 'SAFF Women’s Championship 2024' by defeating host Nepal 2-1 at Dasarath Stadium in Kathmandu on Wednesday.
Previously, in 2022, Sabina and her teammates claimed their first championship title by overcoming Nepal 3-1.
The first half of the match concluded in a goalless draw.
Shortly after the break, in the 52nd minute, Bangladesh took the lead. The players in red and green launched an attack, with captain Sabina Khatun receiving the ball in front of Nepal's D-box. She passed it to Tohura Khatun, who sent it into the goal.
Tohura sprinted in, connecting with the ball using her right foot and sending it into the net, while the Nepali goalkeeper and a defender were both taken down in the process.
However, the players in red and green could not maintain their lead for long, as Nepal equalized in the 56th minute.
Yet, in the final moments, Rituporna secured the title with a spectacular goal, ensuring victory for Bangladesh.
In the 81st minute, Ritu Porna Chakma scored the decisive goal with an impressive attack, outmaneuvering the Nepali goalkeeper with a stunning shot from the left flank and securing Bangladesh's dream of retaining the title.
