A rape complaint has been filed against Nepal’s national cricket team captain Sandeep Lamichhane, reports The Kathmandu Post.
According to Nepal Police Spokesperson Tek Prasad Rai, a 17-year-old girl, in presence of her guardian, registered the complaint at the Gaushala police circle on Tuesday, alleging Lamichhane of sexual coercion.
The District Police Range Kathmandu, in a Facebook post, informed that the victim was taken for a medical evaluation by the police at the One Door Crisis Management Centre.
The medical report is yet to come, say police.
“The girl and Lamichhane, according to the complaint, met on the social media site ‘Snapchat.’
Lamichhane asked to meet up after they became friends. The girl concurred. According to the complaint, on the evening of August 21 Lamichhane picked the girl up in a private vehicle; the duo then left for Nagarkot.
While in Nagarkot, the girl asked to be taken back to her hostel in Kathmandu repeatedly, the complaint states.
They left Nagarkot for Kathmandu later that night and booked a hotel room as the hostel where she was staying was closed.
According to the victim, Lamichhane sexually abused her at the hotel where they stayed after coming back to Kathmandu.
Following the development, the Cricket Association of Nepal (CAN) has called an emergency meeting on Wednesday evening to discuss the matter.
