Sri Lanka won a thriller chasing 184 and knocked Bangladesh out of the ongoing Asia Cup on Thursday in Dubai of the United Arab Emirates.
With this win, Sri Lanka qualified for the super four of the tournament as the second team after Afghanistan from Group B.
In the do-or-die match, Bangladesh scored 183 for 7 and Sri Lanka chased it down with three balls to play and two wickets to spare.
Young batter Kusal Mendis scored 60 off 37 balls and Dasun Shanaka scored 45 runs off 33 balls leading the Lankans to the next phase of the tournament.
Bangladesh pacer Eabadot Hossain, who bagged three wickets in the match, conceded 17 runs in the 19th over. In the last over, Mahedi failed to defend eight runs.
Mehidy Hasan, promoted to open, gave Bangladesh a flying start but Sri Lanka fought back with wickets in the middle overs. The opening batter scored 38 runs off 26 balls.
Afif then came on and took the game by the scruff of the neck and slammed his way to a 22-ball 39, giving impetus to the innings and Mosaddek carried forward that momentum to take Bangladesh past the 180-mark.
Wanindu Hasaranga de Silva and Chamika Karunaratne bagged two wickets each for 41 and 32 runs respectively.
