Almost a year after the announcement of Ramayana, the makers of the Ranbir Kapoor, Yash, and Sai Pallavi film have revealed a new poster along with the official release dates. Producer Namit Malhotra shared the news on his X (formerly Twitter) account, confirming that the movie will be released in two parts.
Producer Namit Malhotra took to his X (formerly Twitter) account to express his excitement about the upcoming Ramayana film, starring Ranbir Kapoor, Yash, and Sai Pallavi. Reflecting on the journey of bringing the epic to the big screen, Malhotra wrote, "More than a decade ago, I embarked on a noble quest to bring this epic, which has captured the hearts of billions for over 5000 years, to cinema."
In a follow-up post, Malhotra emphasized the dedication of the team behind the film, stating, “I am thrilled to see it taking shape beautifully as our teams work tirelessly with only one purpose: to present the most authentic, sacred, and visually stunning adaptation of our history, our truth, and our culture – our RAMAYANA – for people across the world.” His posts highlight the immense effort going into making the adaptation a true reflection of the revered Indian epic.
He added, “Join us as we fulfill our dream of bringing our greatest epic to life with pride and reverence… Part 1 in Diwali 2026 and Part 2 in Diwali 2027. From our entire Ramayana Family.”
While the newly released poster for Ramayana generated excitement about the film’s upcoming release, it notably did not mention the cast. Instead, the poster highlighted the years of the two-part film's release and credited Nitesh Tiwari as the director. The cast, which includes Ranbir Kapoor, Yash, and Sai Pallavi, was not referenced in the official promotional material, keeping the focus on the film's timeline and creative leadership.
Earlier, several behind-the-scenes images from the sets of Ramayana surfaced online, offering a glimpse of the star-studded cast in costume. In one such image, Ranbir Kapoor and Sai Pallavi were seen portraying the iconic characters of Ram and Sita. Yash, who plays the formidable role of Ravan, also confirmed his involvement in the film. Other pictures featured Arun Govil and Lara Dutta in regal attire, with reports suggesting they will portray the roles of King Dasharath and Queen Kaikeyi, respectively.
A recent report from India Today revealed that the makers of Ramayana are planning to turn the epic into a trilogy. According to sources, the first film will focus on the story of Ram and Sita, culminating in Sita's abduction by Raavan. The second installment will shift the focus to Hanuman, with Sunny Deol in the lead, exploring his connection to the exile (Vanwas) and Sita’s kidnapping. The third film will cover the aftermath of Sita’s abduction. To ensure the trilogy releases without significant delays between parts, the films are currently being shot simultaneously.
It is reported that the shooting of the first part of the film is nearing completion.
In an interview with The Hollywood Reporter, Yash confirmed his role in the film and said, “It’s a very fascinating character. I wouldn’t have done it for any other reason. In Ramayana, if you had asked me, ‘Would you play any other character?’ Probably not. For me, Ravan is the most exciting character to play as an actor so I really like the shades and the nuances of particular character. There’s vast scope to present it in a very different way. As an actor, I am very excited. Hopefully, it’s going to be a very unique approach to it.”
In addition to his acting role, Yash is also co-producing this ambitious epic.
