Finance and Planning Minister Amir Khasru Mahmud Chowdhury said, “Time is needed to bring a fragile economy to the right place and move forward. I have only one request, one appeal to the people of the country: give us that time. We are moving towards a welfare state.”
“As an elected government, we are accountable to you,” he assured.
This Thursday morning, the Finance Minister offered Eid-ul-Azha prayers at Darus Salam Jame Mosque near his house, in Uttar Kattali of Chattogram city. After that, he spoke to reporters.
He said, “The prices of goods usually increase during Eid-ul-Adha, but this time they have decreased. We want to continue this trend. Every effort is being made to keep the prices of goods within the purchasing power of the common people. Hopefully, they will gradually decrease. But we will have to give some time.”
The budget for the 2026-27 fiscal year will be announced in the National Parliament on June 11. As the first Finance Minister in the history of Chattogram, Amir Khusru will show the countrymen the direction of the economy for the first time. Keeping the budget in mind, he briefly presented the current situation of the country's economy to journalists.
The Finance Minister said, “It will not be possible to think about empty growth. The common people have to get the benefits of the economy. If the prices of goods go beyond the reach of the common people, then they will be deprived of the benefits of the economy.”
Amir Khusru said, “We have inherited a fragile economy from the previous governments. On the other hand, there is a war going on in the Middle East. Even in such a situation, that fragile economy has to be brought to the right place. We will go on the path of prosperity, InshaAllah.”
Amir Khusru also commented that Eid-ul-Adha does not mean just slaughtering animals and eating meat. He said, “Eid-ul-Adha means sacrifice. We have to learn to sacrifice. We have to sacrifice ourselves and work for the country, for the people. We have to do it for our neighbors. In short, we must embrace the glory of sacrifice.
We must get rid of the idea that we have to get everything.”
Amir Khasru Mahmud Chowdhury also opined that an environment should be created in the country where everyone respects everyone else.
