An eight-year-old girl was raped at her neighbour’s house in Kalabagan, Dhaka on Friday night, the latest incidence of child rape over the past month in the country, reports Daily Sun.
The child has been handed over to her parents after she recovered and underwent a health check-up at Dhaka Medical College Hospital.
The accused, 60, has confessed to his crime before a court, which sent him to jail, recording the statement. The child’s mother had filed the case.
According to Fazle Ashik, the suspect lived with the family of his brother at a residence in North Circular Road of Kalabagan.
Around 8:45 pm on Friday night, the child was playing next to her residence. At one point, the suspect saw his victim and offered her chocolate to lure her into his house next door.
The child obliged, but was raped inside the house of the elderly man. As she screamed, the suspect opened the door of his house. Upon hearing the child’s scream, the neighbours and locals approached the area and sensed trouble.
The neighbours confined the man and informed the police.
