An oil tanker carrying 100,000 tonnes of crude oil from the United Arab Emirates has arrived at the outer anchorage of Chattogram Port.
The vessel, named MT Fossil, reached the anchorage area on Friday, and unloading operations began around 10:30am through lighter vessels, reports Daily Sun.
Confirming the matter, Eastern Refinery General Manager (Operations and Planning) Md Mostafizur Rahman said around 25 to 26 lighter vessels may be needed to complete the unloading process.
He said the entire shipment of crude oil is expected to reach the refinery within the next eight to 10 days.
Earlier, on May 6, another vessel named MT Ninemia transported 100,000 tonnes of crude oil to Bangladesh from Yanbu Port in Saudi Arabia.
Crude oil supply had remained disrupted since February 18 due to instability in the Middle East and fears over a possible closure of the Strait of Hormuz amid rising regional tensions.
The disruption created a shortage of crude oil, forcing Eastern Refinery to suspend processing operations from April 12.
However, after the arrival of MT Ninemia on May 6, Eastern Refinery resumed full-scale production from the morning of May 8.
