State Minister for Planning Zonayed Saki has said that out of the 3 lakh crore taka in the Annual Development Program (ADP) sector, 10,843 crore taka has been allocated for the agriculture sector. The government is working towards a trillion dollar economy, and there is a plan to implement that goal by 2035.
He said this at a national seminar titled 'Sustainable Development of Agriculture in Bangladesh in the National Budget for Fiscal Year 2026-27' held at the Bangladesh Agricultural Research Council auditorium on Tuesday.
The State Minister for Planning said, “The government is working to overcome a fragile economic system. Work will also be done to overcome the various crises of marginal farmers through agricultural transformation.”
He said, “To sustain agriculture, land, production and marketing must be worked on in a coordinated manner. In addition, a large amount of agricultural produce is being wasted due to lack of adequate cold storage.”
At the event, State Minister for Fisheries and Livestock Sultan Salauddin Tuku said that initiatives will be taken to reduce dependence on imported animal vaccines and produce them domestically. In addition, the use of antibiotics in the poultry sector will not be allowed in any way.
Agriculture Minister Mohammad Amin Ur Rashid said, “Due to the current policy of purchasing paddy from the field, the government is not able to purchase paddy directly from farmers. As a result, farmers are being deprived of fair prices and middlemen are taking advantage of this. As the producers do not have a proper idea about the demand for the product, problems are being created, and consumers are also not able to buy products at fair prices. The main problem of agriculture is in planning. With the help of farmers, the government has taken up a plan to build thousands of mini cold storages, so that farmers get fair prices for their products."
