With a view to further strengthening the country’s defense capabilities, naval power and maritime security, Prime Minister’s Defense Advisor Brigadier General (Retd) Dr. AKM Shamsul Islam, visited the Narayanganj Dockyard run by the Bangladesh Navy.
The Inter-Services Public Relations (ISPR) said this in a press release on Monday.
The ISPR said, “During the visit on Monday, the Defense Advisor was briefed in detail about the overall activities of the Narayanganj Dockyard. Then, he was informed about the shipbuilding and repair capabilities, modern technical facilities, infrastructural development, production activities, maintenance systems and ongoing development activities being conducted under the supervision of the Bangladesh Navy. Later, he visited the important installations, workshops, production areas, repair facilities and various development activities of the dockyard.”
After the inspection, the Defense Advisor said, “The development of the domestic naval industry is very important for the protection of national security, naval power and maritime interests. Narayanganj Dockyard must be transformed into a modern, effective and advanced naval industry institution by increasing shipbuilding, repair and maintenance capabilities.”
He mentioned that domestic capabilities will be our main strength in fostering maritime security.
He laid special emphasis on ensuring quality, punctuality, technical expertise and professionalism in every activity of the dockyard.
He instructed all concerned to take the capacity of this institution to a higher level through the use of modern technology, creation of skilled manpower through training and planned management.
He said, “National defense preparedness must be further strengthened by ensuring maximum use of domestic resources, domestic expertise and domestic technology.”
The Defense Advisor also said, “Narayanganj Dockyard, operated under the supervision of the Bangladesh Navy, is not just a shipbuilding and repair institution; It is an important foundation for the country's maritime capability, defense readiness and self-reliance. Therefore, each of its projects, initiatives and development activities must be carried forward in line with national interests.”
He lauded the professionalism, dedication and efficiency of the officers, engineers, technical manpower and employees working at the dockyard. At the same time, he called on everyone to work with a sense of responsibility and patriotism.
He expressed the hope that through collective efforts, discipline and strong commitment, Narayanganj Dockyard will make a more important contribution to increasing the country's naval and maritime capabilities in the future.
The Defense Advisor said that Narayanganj Dockyard will further develop as a strong supporting institution in achieving national security, economic progress and self-reliance in the defense sector. For this, he emphasized on further dynamizing the ongoing development activities and working together to implement future plans.
