A Member of Parliament (MP) has expressed frustration after failing to receive any response from a Deputy Inspector General (DIG) despite calling and messaging him for seven days.
The MP’s remarks on social media regarding the issue later went viral.
On Sunday, BNP MP from Cumilla-10 (Nangalkot-Lalmai) constituency Mobasher Alam Bhuiyan wrote on Facebook that the situation raises concerns about administrative accessibility and accountability.
He wrote, “The Hon’ble Home Minister must have an office order not to give attention to MPs; otherwise, this would not happen. During a conversation regarding fire service issues, an official told me that there are some senior officers in my constituency whose opinions he also has to consider sometimes.”
“I was surprised and asked him, ‘Are they above the MP?’ He mentioned the name of a former official who contested the 2008 election with the ‘boat’ symbol and later allegedly worked to ensure the defeat of a candidate backed by Jamaat-e-Islami in 2026,” the post added.
He further wrote, “I messaged and called the DIG of Chattogram from my personal number. Seven days have passed, but he did not feel it necessary to respond.”
“I have to humble myself many times while working for the welfare of my constituents. Still, I will try my best for the development of the area because people have elected me to parliament, and I am accountable to them,” he added.
Later, speaking about the post, Mobasher said he had originally contacted Fire Service Project Director and Joint Secretary Sarwar Hossain regarding fire service issues.
“He kept saying he would visit but never came. At one point, he said some senior officials in my constituency also need to be listened to. I asked who that was, and he mentioned former PS of ex-finance minister AHM Mustafa Kamal, Taleb Ali,” he said.
“I was upset. Should an official listen to political affiliates from the previous government instead of my constituency’s needs? People have elected me, and I am accountable to them,” he added.
Regarding the DIG issue, he said, “I met him in Dhaka and discussed matters of law and order in my constituency. I later called and messaged him, but he did not respond for seven days. I am thinking about what would happen if an ordinary citizen sought help. Still, I assume he must have been busy. Hopefully, he will call when he is free.”
