Justice AKM Asaduzzaman and Justice Farah Mahbub took oath as judges of the Appellate Division of the Supreme Court.
With this, the number of judges in the Appellate Division has reached seven.
The oath was administered by Chief Justice Dr. Syed Refaat Ahmed at the Judges Lounge of the Supreme Court at 10:30 AM on Tuesday.
Earlier, President Mohammed Shahabuddin appointed the two High Court Division judges as Appellate Division judges. The Law Ministry issued a notification regarding their appointment on Monday.
The notification stated that, under the authority of Article 95(1) of the Constitution, the President has appointed Justice A.K.M. Asaduzzaman and Justice Farah Mahbub of the High Court Division as judges of the Appellate Division. This appointment will take effect from the date of taking the oath.
Meanwhile, updated information published on the Supreme Court's website indicates that the President, in consultation with the Chief Justice of Bangladesh, appointed these two High Court Division judges to the Appellate Division, based on recommendations from the Supreme Judicial Appointment Council.
Justice AKM Asaduzzaman
Justice AKM Asaduzzaman was born on March 1, 1969. After earning his Master's degree in Law from Rajshahi University, he became a lawyer at the district courts in 1983. He was added to the list of lawyers in the High Court Division in 1985 and in the Appellate Division in 2001. On August 27, 2003, Justice Asaduzzaman was appointed as an additional judge to the High Court Division, and on August 27, 2005, he was made a permanent judge of the High Court.
Justice Farah Mahbub
Justice Farah Mahbub was born on May 27, 1966. She earned her Master's degree in Law from Dhaka University and was admitted as a lawyer in the district courts in 1992. She joined the list of lawyers in the High Court Division in 1994, and in 2002, she became a lawyer in the Appellate Division. On August 23, 2004, she was appointed as an additional judge in the High Court Division, and a year later, on August 27, 2005, she was permanently appointed as a judge in the High Court. Justice Farah Mahbub is the fourth female judge to be appointed to the Appellate Division.
