The country will observe a “one-minute blackout” today (Tuesday) at 10:30 pm in remembrance of the 1971 genocide.
However, important and emergency establishments will be exempt from this observance, according to a media release by the Ministry of Liberation War Affairs.
On this night in 1971, the Pakistani occupation forces carried out indiscriminate killings under the "Operation Searchlight" programme. In just one night, millions of Bengalis were killed across various locations in Bangladesh. To commemorate this tragic event, the government declared March 25 as National Genocide Day in 2017.
