The Commission of Inquiry on Enforced Disappearances chairman retired judge Mainul Islam Chowdhury said that a list of 1,067 Bangladeshis detained in various jails in India in the last two to two and a half years has been found.
He said this at a press conference at the office of the Commission of Inquiry on Enforced Disappearances on Tuesday.
Mainul Islam said that a list of Bangladeshi citizens detained in various jails in India was requested. A list of names and addresses of Bangladeshis detained in various jails in India has been found through the Ministry of Foreign Affairs.
He said that if more information is found, it has been mentioned in writing that it will be sent to the commission. An investigation is underway to see if any names of missing persons are included in the list received.
The Commission chairman also said that the investigation is ongoing subject to receiving complete information from the police and BGB. However, we are aware that on December 22 last year, a missing person named Mohammad Rahmat Ullah from Dhamrai, Dhaka was pushed through the Gomostapur border in Chapainawabganj. The commission's investigation into this matter is ongoing.
