Members of Border Guard Bangladesh (BGB) recovered four gold bars weighing around 2.335 kilograms from an abandoned cowshed in Chuadanda’s Damurhuda upazila on Thursday.
According to a media release, signed by Lt. Col Md Nazmul Hasan of the BGB-6 Battalion, a team of the frontier force conducted a drive in the cowshed of a house in Hudapara area after being informed that the gold bars would be smuggled to India through the border on Thursday night.
Sensing the presence of the BGB, the house’s owner Md Harun managed to flee, according to the release.
Later, two packets wrapped with tape were recovered from a bag abandoned at the cowshed and found the gold bars worth over Tk 2.30 crore, said the release.
A case was filed with the concerned police station in this regard and the gold bars were deposited to the exchequer, it added.
