Home Affairs Adviser Lt Gen (retd) Md Jahangir Alam Chowdhury assured the nation that a new security situation would unfold starting Monday, pledging enhanced law enforcement measures to tackle ongoing challenges.
In a late-night press conference at his residence in Baridhara, Dhaka, Chowdhury revealed that he had convened a meeting with senior law enforcement officials to develop a special plan. He emphasized that patrol activities would be intensified and urged officers to take swift action against any wrongdoers.
The Home Affairs Adviser said, “I have instructed the law enforcement officials to strictly strengthen patrol activities from tomorrow. If they cannot take action, I will also take action against them. I want to assure the countrymen that this morning the situation will improve day by day. There is no chance of deterioration.”
In response to a question from journalists, he said that the devil hunt operation against terrorist criminals is ongoing. He instructed the officials present to ensure that no more than two riders can ride a motorcycle. He said that no one will be allowed to ride a motorcycle without a helmet.
In response to a question whether he should resign due to the continuous deterioration of the law and order situation since taking charge, the adviser said, “You tell me whether the situation has improved!”
The Home Affairs Advisor claimed that the law and order situation has improved a lot since he took charge. Initially, there was no situation to approach the law and order forces. Currently, the police, BGB, Ansar are playing a very active role in maintaining the law and order situation. The army members are also fulfilling the duties assigned to them with the power of the magistrate.
