BNP’s Acting Chairman Tarique Rahman will return to the country before the upcoming national parliamentary elections, according to the party’s Secretary General Mirza Fakhrul Islam Alamgir.
When questioned about Tarique Rahman's return, Mirza Fakhrul stated, "His return depends on his legal cases and the overall political climate. Nevertheless, he will certainly come back before the elections."
In an interview with a private television channel, he said that the cases against Tarique Rahman are being resolved through legal processes, and although it may take time, BNP remains hopeful.
The BNP Secretary General added that the party expects the next election to be held by December. The Election Commission is preparing accordingly.
He further stated that BNP is ready for the elections, and ensuring a free and fair election in the country is their primary goal. He also commented that if the government is not neutral, it should resign.
Mirza Fakhrul clarified that Tarique Rahman’s daughter, Zaima Rahman’s visit to the United States should not be seen as a political trip. He said, "It was an invitational visit, and there is no connection to politics. Whether Zaima Rahman will join politics is entirely her personal decision."
The BNP Secretary General believes that India will not have any influence in the upcoming elections. He said, "I don’t think the current government will allow India to exert influence. Therefore, I don’t see any reason for India’s influence in the elections."
