BNP acting chairman Tarique Rahman on Sunday said it is high time for the people of Bangladesh to build the country afresh since the fascist autocratic ruler has fled.
“The fascist autocratic ruler who had snatched the franchise of the people by holding farcical elections fled the country as you built resistance. It’s high time for us to build the country anew,” he said while addressing the Narail district unit BNP council at the Narail Government High School ground.
Tarique Rahman joined the event virtually from London.
Coming down heavily on the Sheikh Hasina-led fascist government, the BNP acting chairman said they took every institution of Bangladesh to the brink of destruction, while the BNP wants to return people’s rights from there.
He urged the BNP leaders and activists to reach the party’s 31-point outline to the doorsteps of the people.
“Rights to freedom of expression, the franchise, and to do politics must be brought back.”
Tarique said, “The BNP stood by the people whenever the country witnessed transitional periods. In the last 15 years, the fascist autocratic regime destroyed the nation. Now it is our responsibility to rebuild the state. To serve the purpose, we have to work for the next generation.”
Narail district unit BNP President Biswas Jahangir Alam presided over the event, while BNP Chairperson’s Adviser Amanullah Aman inaugurated the council.
In his speech, Amanullah Aman urged the interim government to hold the next parliamentary election quickly without wasting time in the name of reforms.
“An elected government can also implement the reforms. The people will take to the streets again if there is too much delay in holding the election,” he added.
