Asif Mahmud Sajeeb Bhuiyan and Md Nahid Islam were confined in the secret detention cells after they were picked up during the anti-discrimination students’ movement in July.
On Wednesday, Nahid and Asif, who visited the Aynaghor (mirror house) with the chief adviser to the interim government Dr Muhammad Yunus, said they were able to identify the torture cells.
According to Daily Star, “The cells are at the joint interrogation cell under the Directorate General of Forces Intelligence (DGFI), inside CPC-3 (a detention centre) under Rab-2 and the Taskforce Intelligence Centre inside the Rab headquarters.”
Both were confined after being picked up by plainclothesmen during the July uprising in 2024.
After visiting the Aynaghor, information adviser Nahid said that the room where he was kept had a basin on one side as a toilet. After August 5, the walls between these cells were demolished and repainted.
After visiting the Aynaghor, youth and sports adviser Asif said that the room where he was kept had an exhaust fan in the holes on the upper part of the wall, but now it has been taken away.
The youth adviser also said that he recognized the room by looking at the walls. The room was previously very small, but now the middle wall has been demolished and made larger.
Asif was kept in that room for four days. During this time, he was not allowed to talk to anyone outside. The toilet was outside the room and he was taken to the toilet blindfolded, he continued.
