The Anti-Corruption Commission (ACC) has found evidence that Saima Wazed Putul, the daughter of former Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina, holds Canadian citizenship.
In addition, the investigation has revealed that she resorted to the misuse of state resources and irregular activities to secure the position of Regional Director for the South-East Asia region at the World Health Organization (WHO).
The Anti-Corruption Commission shared this information in a statement issued on Sunday.
According to the statement, “For no valid reason, Putul has been made a companion on various state visits. The information provided regarding her qualifications as a candidate was not proper. Additionally, it has been found that she was a passport-holding Canadian citizen.
By abusing familial political influence and through corruption, Putul illegally acquired a 10-katha plot in the diplomatic zone of the “Purbachal New Town Residential Project” in Dhaka. Corruption cases have already been filed against her and others in connection with this.
Additionally, she founded an organization called “Suchona Foundation” and extorted gifts and money from various social and business organizations. Under the Ministry of Health and Family Welfare, she exploited the autistic cell to create fake projects, siphoning off large amount of state funds for her personal gain.
The statement further mentions that she exerted illegal influence over the National Board of Revenue (NBR) to get tax exemptions for the funds received by the foundation, causing significant financial loss to the government.
