Canadian High Commissioner to Bangladesh Ajit Singh today paid a courtesy call on Disaster Management and Relief Adviser Faruk E Azam, Bir Protik at his secretariat office.
During the meeting, they discussed about the recent devastating floods in Bangladesh and the infiltration of forcibly displaced Myanmar citizens.
The High Commissioner discussed the floods in Bangladesh and inquired about the flood rehabilitation plan.
He discussed disaster shelter, first aid, disaster early warning system and other priority issues.
Faruk E Azam said Bangladesh, especially the people of Chattogram Division, is making sacrifices to provide shelter to a large number of Rohingyas. Therefore, it is necessary to take up development activities for the locals as well as improving quality life of Rohingyas.
The High Commissioner showed interest in the matter and assured to extend all out cooperation.
The high commissioner also commended Bangladesh for providing shelter to the forcibly displaced Myanmar citizens residing in Bangladesh.
He also recalled with gratitude the humanitarian contributions of the international community to the Rohingya population.
Ajit Singh expressed his intention to construct disaster-resistant houses in Rohingya refugee camps.
Secretary of the Ministry of Disaster Management and Relief Md. Kamrul Hasan and senior officials of the ministry were present at the event.
