The Bangladesh Film Artistes’ Association (BFAA) has imposed a lifetime ban on actress Nipun Akter’s membership, citing her alleged connections to the ousted Awami League government.
The decision was confirmed by BFAA Vice President DA Tayeb on Tuesday, following a meeting on Sunday.
Last July, Nipun controversially used the association’s official letterhead—despite holding a position on the central committee—to issue a statement regarding the student-led protests against the unequal quota system. She later shared an image of the statement on Facebook.
Nipun's use of the BFAA’s official pad was deemed unauthorized. Additionally, she made derogatory comments about BFAA General Secretary Monowar Hossain Dipjol. In response, the central committee issued her a show-cause notice, but she failed to respond, which the BFAA attributed to her alleged ties with influential Awami League politician Haji Selim.
These actions were considered serious violations of the organisation’s code of conduct, leading to the termination of all her ties with BFAA.
Recently, Nipun was barred from leaving the country by authorities at Sylhet Osmani International Airport after objections were raised by the National Security Intelligence (NSI). However, with no legal complaints against her, she was allowed to depart following questioning.
