Gono Odhikar Parishad president Nurul Haque Nur said there’s no need to repeal the constitution of 1972, rather it can be amended.
He said this at a press conference held at the Al-Razi Complex in the capital on Tuesday.
The President of Gono Odhikar Parishad announced that the two parts of the council have been unified again, forgetting all differences.
Nurul Haque Noor said, “Gono Odhikar Parishad has been unified for the greater interest of our politics, forgetting all differences. One or two people may be outside of it.”
He expressed hope that they will all join.
Stating that there is no need to repeal the 1972 constitution, Noor said, the constitution has been amended 17 times at different occasions. There is no need to repeal it. Rather, it can be amended by discussing with everyone.
Regarding the 1971 liberation war, he said, a nation becomes independent only once. 1971 cannot be compared to 24. All those injured in the quota movement and the July movement must cooperate with the government in their entirety.
He also said, “The accused, including Sheikh Hasina, should be given the maximum punishment in the genocide trial. If their trial is not ensured, more genocide will occur in the future, and a fascist government will emerge again. The problem will not be solved by just holding elections and Hasina must be tried and reformed before that.”
Criticizing the interim government, the Gono Odhikar Parishad president said that people's expectations have stumbled in last five months.
At that time, another section's member secretary, Faruque Hasan, announced Nurul Haque Nur's decision to return to Gono Odhikar Parishad.
