In accordance with prior announcements, the Anti-Discrimination Student Movement is set to gather at the Central Shaheed Minar at 3 pm on Tuesday (Dec 31) for a program titled 'March for Unity'. While the gathering will not involve the proclamation of the July Revolution, the organization will express its support for the Interim Government's initiative to draft the proclamation, and outline its anticipated contents.
Abdul Hannan Masud, Anti-Discrimination Student Movement Coordinator, disclosed the decision at a press conference in capital’s Rupayan tower early Tuesday.
He said, "The July Revolution is a struggle earned with blood. The July Revolution is one achieved through the sacrifice of Atikul Gazi's hand. The July Revolution is one earned through the eyes of my brothers. This July Revolution is one won through the blood of thousands of my brothers who became martyrs. We wanted to issue the proclamation of this revolution. We have urged the state to support us."
"We have also urged political parties to support us, and adopt this proclamation, as it is a historical document. This document must be accepted. Through this document, the era of outdated politics will come to an end. The government has spoken positively about our proclamation, and given its consent regarding the proclamation," he added.
During this time, Akhtar Hossain, Secretary General of the National Citizens' Committee, Spokesperson Samantha Sharmin, Chief Organizer Sarjis Alam, Convenor of the Anti-Discrimination Student Movement Hasnat Abdullah, Chief Organizer Abdul Hannan Masud, Executive Committee Member Rifat Rashid, and Office Cell Secretary Zahid Ahsan, among others, were also present.
At the press conference, Sarjis Alam said, "We have already witnessed that the government has united the entire nation. The July Proclamation should come from the state. When the state assumes this responsibility, we commend it. By bringing the country together and incorporating it into the constitution, the government ensures the sustainability of national unity."
Earlier, on Monday night (Dec 30), Chief Adviser's Press Wing issued a press release announcing that, on behalf of the Interim Government, an initiative has been taken to draft a proclamation of the July Revolution based on national consensus. This proclamation will be adopted to consolidate the unity of the people, the anti-fascist consciousness and the desire for state reform that was built through the July Revolution. The proclamation will be prepared based on the opinions of all participating students, political parties and entities.
On Saturday evening (Dec 28), the Anti-Discrimination Student Movement and the National Citizens' Committee announced through a post on their verified Facebook pages that they will present the 'July Revolution Proclamation' on Dec 31.
They stated that the proclamation will be issued during an event at 3 pm at the Central Shaheed Minar.
