Bangladesh Jamaat-e-Islami Amir, Dr Shafiqur Rahman, stated on Friday that the party would not tolerate any foreign influence, warning that they would not accept anyone “looking at us with red eyes.”
Speaking at a workers' conference at Nawab Siraj-Ud-Dowla Government College ground, he said, “We have been freed not to be imprisoned in any other place.”
Jamaat Amir further stressed that the party seeks “foreign friends, not masters,” and aims to establish foreign relations based on "equal dignity."
Dr Shafiqur Rahman said, “The fallen Awami League government has embezzled 26 lakh crore taka from them in 15 and a half years, which is five times the country’s national budget. During their tenure, they have killed, disappeared, kidnapped Jamaat leaders and activists, looted houses, offices and courts and demolished them with bulldozers. Not only Jamaat but every patriotic party and the common people have been tortured like this. They have cancelled Jamaat's registration, banned Jamaat. Thousands of scholars and Ulama of the country have been dragged to jail in handcuffs.”
He said, “Allah is the one who gives honor. Allah gives honor to whomever He wants and takes it away when necessary. Awami League has carried out violence in the name of three elections. They do not believe in elections. What kind of elections do those who do not believe in the people's right to vote have?”
Dr Shafiqur Rahman further said, “Awami League has tortured 180 million people of this country considering them as opponents. They have indiscriminately opened fire on students and the public during the movement because they had no love for the people. Jamaat has tried to reach the homes of all the martyrs of this movement. The party has stood by the injured as much as it can.”
Jamaat amir demanded that the interim government stand by the injured with more sincerity. He hopes that this government will make the necessary reforms as soon as possible and hand over power to the elected government.
