Government has extended the term of Judiciary Reform Commission (JRC) till Jan 31.
A gazette notification issued by the Cabinet Division on Jan 2, said the tenure of the commission formed on Oct 3, 2024, has been extended till Jan 31, 2025, and the order will come into effect immediately, reports BSS.
Government on Oct 3 formed the commission to propose necessary reforms to make country's judiciary independent, neutral and effective.
Headed by retired justice Shah Abu Nayeem Mominir Rahman, the members of the commission are retired justice Emdadul Haque, retired justice Farid Ahmed Shibli, former district and sessions judge Syed Aminul Islam, former district and sessions judge Masdar Hossain, senior advocate Tanim Hussain Shawon, Dhaka University associate professor of law Kazi Mahfujul Hoque Supan, and a student representative.
The commission was asked to initiate its operation from the day of its formation and submit its report to the Chief Adviser by next 90 days.
