A court in Dhaka on Monday placed former Narsingdi-2 lawmaker Kamrul Ashraf Khan (Poton) on a three-day remand in a case lodged with the capital's Paltan Police Station over the murder of Juba Dal leader Shamim.
Dhaka Metropolitan Magistrate Nazmin Akter passed the order as police produced Poton before the court and pleaded to place him on a 10-day remand, reports BSS.
Police arrested the former lawmaker from the Keraniganj area on December 19.
According to the case documents, the BNP called a rally in the capital's Naya Paltan area on October 28, 2023. In response to the BNP's rally, the then-ruling Awami League (AL) convened a counter rally in the capital on the same day.
The Awami League men with the support of law enforcement agencies attacked the BNP rally which left Shamim Mollah killed and injured many of its leaders and activists.
The case was filed against 704 people, including AL General Secretary Obaidul Quader on September 24.
