Four women were honoured with the prestigious Begum Rokeya Award 2024 from the Chief Adviser Dr Muhammad Yunus on Monday in recognition of their remarkable contributions to the society.
These exceptional women were recognized for their significant contributions to various fields, including education, labour rights, women's empowerment, and sports.
Academic and activist Parveen Hasan was awarded for her contribution in women education, women's rights activist and founding member of Naripokkho Shireen Huq for women's socio-economic development, labour and women rights activist and photographer Taslima Akhter for protecting women's rights and Bangladesh's first female International Chess Master Rani Hamid for her role in empowering women through sports.
In his speech, Professor Dr Yunus expressed his gratitude to those who made the thoughtful decision to feature her story in the textbooks.
