Home Affairs Adviser Lt Col (retd) Jahangir Alam has issued a stern warning that foreigners residing illegally in Bangladesh will not be permitted to stay. The warning was made during a press briefing on Sunday, following a meeting held at the Secretariat to discuss law and order preparations for the upcoming New Year’s Eve (Dec 31) celebrations.
Alam emphasized that the government will take firm action against any illegal foreign nationals living in the country, with plans to issue a circular outlining the measures to be taken. However, when asked about the current number of illegal foreigners in Bangladesh, the adviser stated that he did not have precise data on the figure.
The statement reflects ongoing concerns regarding illegal immigration and the government’s intent to enforce stricter border control and residency policies. The circular, once issued, is expected to provide further details on the actions authorities will take to address the issue and ensure the rule of law is upheld.
