Dr Muhammad Yunus, the Chief Advisor of the Interim Government, said that diabetes is a preventable and manageable condition. He stressed that uncontrolled diabetes can lead to a range of serious health complications.
Dr Yunus also highlighted the need for greater public awareness of these risks and called for proactive measures to reduce the impact of diabetes, which could significantly lower its prevalence.
In a message delivered on the occasion of World Diabetes Day on November 14, Dr Muhammad Yunus made these remarks.
This year's theme for World Diabetes Day is, “Diabetes: Our Commitment to Good Health”
Chief Advisor further stated that, according to experts, more than half of the people worldwide are unaware that they have diabetes.
Therefore, regular blood tests are essential. If diagnosed with diabetes, individuals should seek care at the nearest diabetes center.
He also emphasized the importance of personal and family awareness in managing the condition.
Dr Yunus mentioned that the Bangladesh Diabetic Association has taken various initiatives to raise awareness and promote the prevention and control of diabetes.
He also reassured that the Interim Government will continue to provide full support in efforts to prevent and manage the condition.
