Commerce Adviser Sheikh Bashiruddin has stated that the government is actively working to stabilize the prices of essential commodities, especially in anticipation of the upcoming Ramadan. He called on media professionals to support these efforts.
Speaking at a scholarship cheque distribution event at the Dhaka Reporters Unity (DRU) on Saturday, Bashiruddin highlighted that recent market interventions have already led to a decrease in the prices of sugar, oil, and onions.
"We are striving to maintain a balance between supply and demand to ensure affordability," Bashiruddin said. He emphasized that achieving long-term market stability will require collective efforts and cooperation from the public.
Bashiruddin also sought the collaboration of journalists in achieving this goal.
Addressing broader societal issues, the adviser discussed the challenges faced over the past 15 years, noting the rise of a culture of criminalization that has fragmented the state and fostered a widespread sense of fear across various sectors.
He further encouraged students to view the pursuit of knowledge as a continuous journey and urged them to stay committed to their academic and professional aspirations.
