Three students of Islamic University of Technology (IUT) died from electrocution while 30 others suffered injuries when a Gazipur-bound picnic bus got electrified at Udaykhali in Sreepur upazila of Gazipur district on Saturday, reports UNB.
The identities of the deceased could not be known yet.
Quoting local people Joynal Abedin, officer-in-charge of Sreepur Police Station, said the students of Mechanical Engineering Department of IUT were heading towards Matir Maya Resort in Gazipur in a BRTC double-decker bus as they arranged a picnic over there.
When the bus reached Udaykhali village under Telihati union around 10:30 am, it got electrocuted as it came in contact with a hanging live wire, leaving one student dead on the spot and 33 others injured.
Among the injured, five were taken to Mymensingh Medical College and Hospital where doctors declared two of them dead.
Local people alleged that the incident occurred on a road where buses never operate.
On information, police rushed to the spot and were taking necessary steps.
