Former IGP Chowdhury Abdullah Al Mamun has testified in the International Crimes Tribunal case.
He appeared before the tribunal on Thursday to give his statement. This marked the first time a government official had testified in the case related to the July-August genocide.
Previously, on October 30, media reports indicated that former IGP Chowdhury Abdullah Al Mamun might testify as a public witness in the genocide case. This information was shared by prison sources at the time.
The report suggested that police had been ordered to open fire during the massacre, and that former IGP Chowdhury Abdullah Al Mamun might have had some involvement. However, the final determination on this matter will depend on the tribunal's further instructions. Even if he does not testify as a public witness, it was anticipated that he could provide a confessional statement under Section 164.
Chowdhury Abdullah Al Mamun was arrested in Uttara on September 3, a few days after the media reports surfaced. He faces charges in 17 cases filed by various police stations and has already been remanded for a total of 66 days across multiple phases.
