The Bangladesh Financial Intelligence Unit (BFIU) has directed banks to freeze all accounts of former lawmakers Momtaz Begum, also a folk singer, and Rashed Khan Menon, president of the Workers Party of Bangladesh.
Confirming the matter, an official of the BFIU said on Monday that banks were asked to suspend transactions of accounts held by the two ex-MPs for a period of 30 days.
The BFIU also instructed to freeze accounts of the companies owned by them for the same period, he said.
Banks have also been requested to send their account-related information or documents, such as account opening forms, KYC, and transaction statements, to the anti-money laundering agency, the official added.
