US Assistant Secretary of State for the Bureau of South and Central Asian Affairs Donald Lu arrived in Dhaka on Saturday afternoon following his visit to India.
A flight of IndiGo carrying the US assistant secretary landed at the Hazrat Shahjalal International Airport around 3:20 pm.
Assistant Secretary for International Finance at the US Department of the Treasury Brent Neiman, US Embassy Dhaka chargé d'affaires Helen LaFave, and Bangladesh Ministry of Foreign Affairs Director General (North America Wing) Khandker Masudul Alam welcomed Donald Lu at the airport.
This is the first visit by any US delegation to Bangladesh since the Prof Muhammad Yunus-led interim government took charge after the fall of the Awami League government.
During his visit to India and Bangladesh from September 10 to September 16, Donald Lu would reaffirm the United States’ commitment to support its partners’ economic growth and promote stability throughout the Indo-Pacific region, the State Department said in a media note.
