Members of Border Guard Bangladesh (BGB) detained a smuggler along with 11 gold bars from Satkhira’s at Bhomra Lakshidari border area on Thursday, reports UNB.
The detainee is Zakir Hossain, 31, son of Arijul Molla of Lakshidari village in Bhomra union.
Acting on tip-off, a team of BGB-33 conducted a drive in the area on Thursday night and caught Zakir red-handed along with 11 gold bars while he was trying to smuggle those into India, said its captain Ashraful Haque.
He said that 11 pieces of gold bars were recovered wrapped in a towel around the arrested man's waist, weighing around 1.5 kg.
The estimated market value of this gold is Tk 1, 60,70, 528.
A case has been filed at Satkhira Sadar Police Station and the process of depositing the gold bars at the Treasury Office is under process, added the BGB official.
