Anti-quota demonstrators are enforcing a “complete shutdown” across the country on Thursday.
They asked to close everything except the hospitals and other emergency services.
The demonstrating students and job seekers are observing the programme protesting the condemnable attack on the peaceful movement of students that killed at least six people.
People were seen walking towards their destination in the capital’s Shanir Akhra and Kazla areas around 7:30 am. Vehicles were not being allowed to move in the Rayerbag Kadamtali area of the city.
All Dhaka-bound buses had to stop at the Signboard area of Siddhirganj in Narayanganj due to the barricades set up there.
Meanwhile, most of the residential students of Chittagong University refused to leave the halls on Wednesday even after the directive from the administration to vacate halls.
Later, the CU administration extended time till 10:00 am on Thursday.
According to the decision of the CU syndicate meeting, the university was declared closed indefinitely and the female students were instructed to leave the halls by 6:00 pm on Wednesday and the male students by 9:30 pm.
