The World Accreditation Day-2023 will be observed in the country like elsewhere in the world tomorrow, reports BSS.
This year, the theme of the day is 'Accreditation: Supporting the Future of Global Trade', said a handout from Press Information Department (PID) today.
On the eve of the day, President Mohammed Shahabuddin and Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina gave separate messages wishing success of the day.
In his message, President Mohammed Shahabuddin said: "I welcome the initiative of Bangladesh Accreditation Board (BAB) to celebrate the 'World Accreditation Day 2023' in Bangladesh in a befitting manner as elsewhere in the world."
The head of the state said accreditation and trade are inseparable based on trust and confidence.
Standards, Regulations, Metrology and Accredited Conformity Assessment are primary basis of quality infrastructure of a country, he added.
Besides in simplifying the activities of business and regulatory bodies, this integrated system facilitates expansion of trade and strengthen the economy of a country, he said, adding that the role of accreditation is immense in removal of Technical Barriers to Trade (TBTs).
"Accreditation helps promote Global Trade by developing the National Quality Infrastructure and creating confidence among purchasers and consumers," he continued.
The President believed that the theme of the day of this year 'Accreditation: Supporting the Future of Global Trade' is appropriate in present context of global trade.
He further said that the Bangladesh Accreditation Board is playing a vital role in economic development of the country by providing accreditation services to customers.
Shahabuddin hoped BAB would operate accreditation activities following international standard and contribute in expansion of trade and commerce of the country.
Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina, in her message, said: "I am happy to know that 'World Accreditation Day 2023' is being celebrated in Bangladesh like other countries of the world."
"On this occasion, I would like to extend my heartfelt greetings to all stakeholders of Bangladesh Accreditation Board (BAB) and our development partners," the premier added.
In a free market economy, trade relationships are built on trust, she said, adding that this trust is gained by ensuring the quality of products and services at every stage of the supply chain.
"This requires a credible National Quality Infrastructure consisting of quality management, metrology, testing, and accreditation," she continued.
She said that it creates new areas of cooperation in international trade including accelerating export trade by removing technical barriers to global trade.
"In this era of the fourth industrial revolution, Bangladesh is moving forward through competition like other countries of the world to achieve socio-economic progress, industrialization, economic growth, or technological excellence," she added.
"Therefore, we have to take the necessary initiatives to strengthen the journey of knowledge-based industrialization and face future trade challenges," Sheikh Hasina said.
Noting that the Awami League-led government's main target is to turn Bangladesh into a developed and prosperous country by 2041, she said in order to achieve this goal, the country is moving faster towards quality industrialization.
"At present, the world's most environment-friendly products are being produced in our local industries. As a result, our export income is increasing and the living standard of our people is improving gradually," she said.
"Our government is also committed to achieving the United Nations' 'Sustainable Development Goals 2030'. I am confident that we would be able to reach the desired destination of industrialization within a short span of time," she added.
She hoped that BAB will contribute positively to strengthening Bangladesh's position in export trade by achieving the United Nations' Sustainable Development Goals, developing national quality infrastructure, and assisting in facing future trade challenges in the days to come.
Both the President and the Premier wished all successes of the programmes taken in connection with the observance of the World Accreditation Day-2023.
