An eight-year-old child’s body was discovered in a pit, four days after he went missing in the Faridganj area of Chandpur, reports UNB.
The deceased was identified as Adil Mahmud Sohan, 8, son of Anowar Hossain of Rudragaon village.
The partially decomposed body was recovered from an abandoned plot of land located about 200 yards east of his residence in Rudragaon.
Sub-Inspector Jamal Hossain and Officer-in-Charge A. Mannan of the Faridganj Police Station, said the remains of the missing child were found by an elderly woman in the vicinity of her house.
Upon receiving information, a police team retrieved the body, and transported it to Chandpur Sadar Hospital for an autopsy.
Sohan mysteriously vanished on his way back home after offering Maghrib prayers at the mosque situated in front of his house. The child's father, Anwar Hossain, filed a general diary (GD) at the Faridganj police station on May 16, the day following the incident, after an extensive search for his son yielded no results.
The exact motive behind the heinous act that claimed the life of the young child remains unknown.
Locals suspect that the crime may have been driven by previous enmity.
